Harnessing the Diversity and Power of the Vitamix

I’ve admired the Vitamix Power Blender for a long, long time. It began about 6 years ago when I started reading about eating a more raw food diet. At the time I was doing a 12 week alkaline course with Energise for Life. I’d never really come across the raw food diet before and it was the introduction of this and eating more alkaline foods in my diet that meant I kept coming across the Vitamix being mentioned a lot. It appeared to be a handy piece of kit to have in your kitchen. Whether it was in conjunction with making your own almond milk, homemade humous, or even making soup, this machine kept coming up on my radar time and time again.

I was lucky enough to be given the chance to trial a Vitamix Nutrition Center for a few months and I have to say that I now understand all the hype. They are great machines and very versatile in what they can cope with. They are a high speed, industrial type blender but made for the home. They have a much larger jug capacity so you can make a lot more in one go. You can blend nuts and other food items that an “average” blender would struggle with. I have always wanted to make my own almond milk, however, our small blender would struggle to make it as well as a Vitamix.

The Vitamix Nutrition Center comes with a comprehensive instruction manual including lots of tasty, healthy recipes. They also supply an informative DVD which is a great addition. I never realised that a Vitamix can make soup from scratch by just adding the ingredients to the blender. The heat generated from the blades whizzing around heats the liquid after about 4-5 minutes. This is a great piece of kit if you want to make quick, healthy meals, smoothies, nut milks, salad dressings, soups etc. I’m catering trained and have always had a love of food and creating tasty, healthy dishes for myself and my family so I’ve really enjoyed the short time I’ve had with this machine. It’s a shame I have to give her back !

I’ve made the smoothest humous I’ve ever managed using the Vitamix and it tasted pretty good too using Vitamix’s recipe. I also tried out their beetroot, salmon and mascapone pâté which was delicious on seeded crackers. My strawberry yoghurt freeze went a bit awry but like all machines, this was down to user error in the early learning stages. It did end up being a fabulously tasty smoothie though so nothing was lost. I have managed to make lots of tasty almond milk which makes yummy, healthy chocolate smoothies!

There are other high power blenders on the market now and they are all pretty pricey, what I’d call an investment. That’s probably one of the reasons why I’ve not bought one just yet. I’d love one for my kitchen. I have a dehydrator, sprouter etc but this is one piece of machinery I’m missing. Having tried one out for a couple of months and now that I am studying my naturopathic nutrition, I know that I need one of these fabulous blenders in my life. I will be saving hard for one. There’s a part of me that perhaps wishes I hadn’t asked to try one out, because now I have to give her back ! However, what it has done for me is reaffirm why I would like one in my kitchen and all the amazing, quick and  healthy meals I could make quickly and simply with this great piece of equipment.

Thank you Vitamix for kindly letting me try out one of your versatile machines. I will be showing you how to make homemade almond milk in another blog post but for now if you’ve been wondering if a Vitamix is a worthwhile investment then I would say it is. I’ve loved using mine and I’ve had lots of fun with it too. I’ll be sad to see her go but I’m now on a mission to get myself one of my own.

If you’d like to find out more about Vitamix UK, you can take a look at their website, follow them on Twitter, or give them a like on Facebook.

Have any of you got a Vitamix? What healthy recipes do you make with yours? Do share in the comments section, as I’d love to know your thoughts.

Until next time xx

  1. I didn't realise you could make soup from scratch in them either. I am so tempted by these, looks like I have some saving to do too x

    1. Fab isn't it? I was in awe watching the video of soup being made :) With small children this alone is a great thing. Vitamix now have an Aspire and Professional 300 which have shorter jugs to help them fit on most kitchen counters. I've got my eye on one of those. A definite "must save for" item xx

  2. I have always thought about buying a 'heavy duty' blender and this is the one that springs to mind. I think I could do so much with it and really change our family diet... you've inspired me to start saving too!! Rach xx

    1. Having had one for a few months made me realise what I can do with it's power and versatility. It really is a great piece of kit. I quite like the look of the Aspire Professional Blender by Heston Blumental and also the Nutri Bullet looks interesting. It would appear we will all be filling up our piggy banks for one. I don't aspire to wanting much in life, but the possibility of a Vitamix has got me ! :) xx
